In Response to Great Need
Started as a single workshop to support caregivers in 2015 at St. Mary of Gostyn Church in Downers Grove, IL, Nourish for Caregivers is now serving caregivers in over 70 communities across the United States.
After that first event, overwhelmed by the response and hearing the struggles of so many who sought to be supported and also be fed spiritually, Deb Kelsey-Davis and Kelly Johnson decided more must be done.
Searching for materials online to support caregivers' practical, emotional, and spiritual needs, Deb and Kelly found none that incorporated the faith element. So, they decided to develop the materials themselves!
The Holy Spirit has taken it from there, into the hands of lay facilitators, church staff, religious leaders, and most recently into senior communities and health care service providers.
When COVID19 hit, the Nourish team quickly responded. Within a week after learning people could no longer gather in-person to attend the program, a daily virtual (Zoom) support became available to caregivers everywhere in the form of what was termed, "House Calls". And soon thereafter, the traditional program and resources were re-created into a virtual delivery format.
Only God knows where we will continue to adjust and reimagine the resources and support we provide. But one thing is for certain...the needs of caregivers are increasing and our team is committed to serving and supporting caregivers so that they can experience the hope and healing of Jesus Christ on their caregiving journey.
